Rules, tools and tricks of the trade are the opening day highlights of the annual officiating summit hosted by the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO), which opened at the historic Renaissance Cleveland Hotel today.
The Buckeye state's corps of high school sports officials have kicked off the first state rules meeting of the year this morning. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) will offer rule changes and interpretations for the coming year on this Saturday before NASO'S nationally-based program starts in earnest tomorrow.
As for the tools and tricks, the official at-large can come get their kicks at the exhibitor's gallery, where 19 different vendors, including this writer's premiere client, Cliff Keen Athletic, are debuting the newest officiating updates in gear, uniforms, apparel and gadgets for the 2008-09 scholastic calender.
NASO's national program includes a professional and major college representation of the officials seen working the National Football League, National Basketball Association and NCAA officials, including Bill LeMonnier (Big Ten), Violet Palmer (WNBA), Bill Carollo (NFL) and Stephen Walkom (NHL).
