It was a classic piece of manufactured Detroit architecture, a building first splashed in verdant green, later converted into three shades of blue, but always the only place I wanted to be on the first warm day of spring. As a child I always wondered if the stadium felt lonely in the winter solitude it endured before re-opening the doors years after year.
That's how I remember Tiger Stadium. I can still remember WDIV's Al Ackerman, Detroit's favorite cynic, giving the 11:00 newscast highlights of the game "down at the stadium tonight..."
